Shop'NCook Shopping List and Recipe Manager software
I was really looking forward to reviewing Shop'NCook, since the subject of food is very dear to my heart! And the older I become, the more interested I am in nutrition too. I have become convinced that health problems can be avoided often by a simple change in diet. The first step in making truly informed decisions about your diet is having the knowledge about food readily available to you.
I really loved Shop'NCook because it packs a lot of information about food into a handy program that is super easy to use.
The first thing you'll notice is the shopping list. Shop'NCook is so well designed that you don't realize how much information is packed into its database. The food types are divided into general groups, like cheese, pasta, poultry, for example. When you click on the group name, you get further subdivisions (like cream cheese, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese - yum!)
You can add the item to your shopping list by clicking the checkbox in front of it, but be sure to click on the question mark behind the entry. You'll see handy nutritional information displayed for that item!
For example, when I click on cheddar cheese I see basic nutritional info, like energy, protein, lipid fat, sugars, calcium, iron, saturated fatty acids and cholesterol.
If you want even more information, click on "edit" and you get the full nutritional breakdown, including ash content, nutritional fiber, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid,B6, folate, folic acid, food folate, B12, vitamin A, retinol, vitamin E, vitamin K, alpha-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein, zeozanthin, saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, cholesterol, and probably a few things that I skipped! Whew!
Naturally, this information may vary somewhat according to what product you buy, so Shop'NCook allows you to edit these if you wish. Shop'NCook is a valuable nutritional guide.
Another handy feature is the ability to change the amounts. For instance, you can convert the measurement from ounces to cups or grams or other measuring units.
Shop'NCook is not only a shopping list organizer and a nutritional guide, but it's a wonderful cookbook too! Shop'NCook has several recipes already installed (as examples of how you can add recipes yourself), and you can also connect to the online database with over one hundred recipes. Just click on the "direct access" tab at the top of the screen, and you are connected to The Recipe Database, a growing resource for delicious recipes from around the world. Shop'NCook has several tools to import recipes from the internet. The the browser tool will directly import whole recipe archives. Choose Get Recipes/Import from
Clipboard if you want to locate and import individual recipes. With this browser tool, you can easily import a few thousand recipes in a couple of minutes - or a few hundred thousand if you are inclined to!
Did I mention you can add your own recipes too? You can actually customize Shop'NCook in lots of different ways if you want. Shop'NCook is an excellent resource for anyone who loves to cook or is interested in nutrition. Whether you're just learning to cook or you're an experienced cook who wants organize your recipes, Shop'NCook is a terrific way for you to organize and expand your culinary skills!
